2009, a celebration of a great year!

2009 has been a difficult year for many, and so I am especially thankful that I have continued to be able to make a living doing something that I love. This year I drew for over one hundred and twenty events, for thousands of people all over the Bay Area! I attended warm celebrations for families celebrating birthdays from ages 1 to 65. I helped to make weddings, Mitzvahs, and Anniversaries memorable and entertaining. I made just another day at the office a fun time for everyone. I helped make Halloween and Christmas parties more festive. Also, in the past few months, I developed my own style of digital caricatures. With the help of a small handful of artists working in this medium across the globe, I brought a new and exciting way of working to my own practice.

For everyone out there who had me come and draw for your friends, family, school, office, club, party or event, thank you for letting me continue to do what I love to do. I hope that in the coming years I can continue to be a part of your festivities, and make the special times you spend with each other more memorable.
Happy Holidays.

12-18-09 Last Job of the Year!

The Mt Tam Racquet club contacted me a few days before their Holiday Party looking for a caricaturist. I ended up staying more than an hour over time, as they kept the party going later than they had planned because we were all having so much fun with the caricatures. All of these drawings were done for myself, for my own practice and love of drawing. I wanted to end the year with strong work, and the top sketch of this post was my very last event caricature of the year.

12-11-09 Holiday Party at the San Jose Museum of Art hires Bay Area Caricaturist Jon Casey!

Rovi Corp rented out the San Jose Museum of Art and had me come and draw for them. It was such as hit, I ended up staying an extra hour. When the Museum was shutting down and the food was being put away, I was finishing up the last few in line still.

12-10-09 Genentech hires Bay Area Caricature artist Jon Casey!

Genentech's Holiday party was a full on event thrown by Inspire Productions. I worked with an up and coming caricaturist Jeanette Madden. It was interesting to talk to people who spend their working hours combating Alzheimer's and looking for the cure for cancer.

12-8-09 San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Anniversary and Holiday Party!

It was also Heather's Birthday, she asked to be a princess, on a pony, trampling her newlywedded husband...
I was originally supposed to draw for only 2 hours, but 4 hours in they told me I could finally stop!

It was great to be a part of the SF MOMA's event. We are really lucky to have such a world class museum in our city, and though I hope one day my paintings will be on the walls, drawing for all of the employees is also pretty cool.

12-7-09, Local School's Holiday Party

I arrived at a local Catholic School, and the kids lined up around the gym for a sketch. I drew like crazy to get in as many as I could in about 2 1/2 hours.

12-6-09 Birthday Party!

This family was really cool! Drew their 1 yr old and all her friends, as well as this couple at the bottom who asked to be drawn as zombies. They loved it!

12-5-09 Gallery 444 hires Bay Area Caricature Artist Jon Casey!

Gallery 444, one of the earliest Union Square Art Galleries, and a neighbor to my art studio, hired me for their benefit Holiday Party.I drew the guests who streamed in from the busy street, the family of 3 ladies who work there, even the security guard who was a North Beach native.
It happened to be on my birthday, as well. It was great to work this fun job and then spend some time with friends.

12-4-09 Silicon Laboratories Hires Bay Area Caricature Artist Jon Casey!

Lots of fun drawings at this party! I was asked to stay an extra hour because no one wanted to leave without a sketch. This was one of those fun parties where everyone laughed and joked each other during and after the sketches.

12-3-09, San Jose Hilton Women's Networking Alliance, Let the Holiday Parties Begin!

This event begins a busy season of Holiday Parties all over the Bay Area!

Through my volunteering my services for the Dream Wedding Giveaway, I have been rewarded with many jobs. One of them took place tonight at the San Jose Hilton, where I drew for 3 1/2 hours to help a new organization celebrate a successful year together in these tough times.

I went to the paper store earlier today, and instead of buying pure white paper, I bought a thick grey toned paper. I drew the sketches tonight with shades of grey and a few white highlights added here and there. I am looking forward to experimenting more with tones for my drawings!

11-28-09 Bat Mitzvah

A Bat Mitzvah with my caricatures as the entertainment. This family drew up a dry erase board of all the kids attending, so that no one was left out and no one had to wait in line. They also set up a clothesline system to hang the drawings as I finished them. The little girl in the purple dress (bottom right) had so much fun watching me that she took over seeing who would be next and wiping away the name once they had gone. Even with my more detailed "shaded" sketches, we managed to get in over 40 drawings (all the kids and some adults too!) in about 2 hours.

11-27-09

Matt threw a party for his son's first bday the day after thanksgiving. It started raining so we moved the party in doors and everyone ate fresh grilled food while I drew, we all had a good time.
