10-25-09
A wedding in Berkeley. I worked this party with the great face painter Catherine Grillos.
The caricatures were so popular I had to stay an extra hour.

This family was at another party I did, and had me come for Hudson's first Birthday, seen here. Look at that face!

10-17-09 an Alternative Wedding in San Francisco!

When I think of caricatures, I think of Ocean City Maryland end-of-the- boardwalk-cheese that doesn't really capture the personality or essence of the person sitting for their portrait. Not so, Jon. I was covering for my magazine and blog probably one of the hippest weddings in recent history last night, (how cool is it that the bride and groom thought to do this for their wedding and guests? A for creativity!) and met Jon for the first time. After watching him capture 4 couples particular mojo to perfection, I realized that this guy is for real. Also, he's about as attitude free and nice as a talented illustrator can get. People were waiting 4-5 deep for their portraits. He also nails it quickly with a good strong line and grabs the essence of the person, and couple sitting for the portrait. It was fun, it was fast, and it was fabulous. Not to mention a slam dunk crowd pleaser, as I think most of us haven't had our caricatures done since we were 12 years old at a mall carnival parking lot in Anywhere, USA. People had forgotten how much fun it is, and it really did unleash the inner kid in many of us. People couldn't stop talking about their cool portraits, where they would hang it, Jon's ability to "nail that one thing" that defines us as individuals, and how much fun the experience was. Also, I've never been anywhere at midnight after a 6 hour wedding where no matter what state of inebriation any of the guests were in, one thing was clear: that portrait was going to be treated like the Holy Grail until transported safely to a reputable frame shop. Jon is a rock star, nuff said.
Chad contacted me about his wedding a few weeks ago, saying that it was going to be a bit out of the ordinary and it sounded a lot of fun. The wedding party was dressed with really cool style, and among other interesting bits, the groomsmen ran on stage with Luchador Masks on. They asked me to stay for an extra hour to get in a few more friends.
It was also great getting to work with local legendary caricaturist and illustrator Zach Trenholm. Most of the events I do are single artist events, but every time I have a chance to work with Zach or watch someone else work at that level, I feel like I learn something new.

10-11-09 Birthday party in San Francisco hires Bay Area Caricature artist Jon Casey
Hi Jon!
Thanks again for drawing at the birthday yesterday!
Everyone loved their drawings, and the parents were impressed with how
quickly and accurately you drew their kids. You even had a chance to
draw my mother, which was very cool. Walker and all, she managed to
stroll onto the grass. ;) Thanks also for staying a little longer to
finish drawing the picture of my girls.
Thank you again
and hope to see you again at some of my friends' parties.
Cheers!

10-8-09 St. Perpetua school Auction artwork, Year 2
Last year I was invited to come and draw the 8th grade class at St. Perpetua. I had no idea that they were going to make such elaborate collages of the work for each person and was really surprised to see how cool this looked. This is Mrs. Wilson's, but each person got one of their own with their likeness enlarged and the rest of the classmates included.
Though there were only 23 or so kids last year, this year there were over 30! With the bodies and shading, and having only 2 hrs, I had to work very quickly to fit them all in. I finished up just in time for everyone to go to a lecture.

10-7-09 Charity Event at Fort Mason in San Francisco, with Jon Casey of Bay Area Caricatures
This is Liz Guthrie, who coordinated the event. Thanks Liz!
This very nice lady felt like cupcakes were a good trade for the drawing.
Next May, I will be drawing for a local couple who has won the Dream Wedding. I often volunteer for charitable causes, and this event was a sort of meet and greet for the applying couples. I made a lot of great contacts, and drew some fun sketches in exchange for wine and cupcakes. I love my job.

10-4-09 Wedding Party at the Hotel Westin St. Francis, San Francisco hires Bay Area Caricatures
The Bride's parents Caricature was a favorite of all the guests! People with as much character in the face as the older gentlemen are a pleasure to draw.
I like this sketch as it shows a long, narrow face, VS a square shaped face. Of course, my drawing is an exaggeration of these two.
Being an artist has it's perks. The wait staff really liked my work. They said they had seen tons of artists in the hotel (the bottom guy here has been at work at the Westin for 24 years!) but they were willing to trade for some art.... They had a specially prepared meal with wine, hot and waiting for me, in exchange for a couple drawings. (They joked that no one else had a meal specially prepared for them.) All in all, a very fun gig!!

10-01-09, Corporate Party for Cisco in Sunnyvale, with 4 caricaturists!
Worked in Sunnyvale for Cisco Systems, thanks to Robert Bauer at Goofy Faces. Rene Pulido, Big Al, and an artist from a local park named Ramon all drew sketches as fast as we could. We were all so popular that the four of us stayed an extra half hour.
It was great getting to work with other artists, after many many solo gigs. Thanks to all of them and the people at Cisco who were very appreciative of our art!
