1-16-10 --First Job of 2010, Fairmont Hotel, Jon Casey Bay Area Caricatures!

My first job of the year, and my first job with Alfie Dreifuss, who put on a great pirate themed party! These photos are awful, but it was pretty dim lighting. Felt great to get back to work, and I look forward to the chance to work with Alfie's team again!

12-5-09 Gallery 444 hires Bay Area Caricature Artist Jon Casey!

Gallery 444, one of the earliest Union Square Art Galleries, and a neighbor to my art studio, hired me for their benefit Holiday Party.I drew the guests who streamed in from the busy street, the family of 3 ladies who work there, even the security guard who was a North Beach native.
It happened to be on my birthday, as well. It was great to work this fun job and then spend some time with friends.

11-13-09 First Digital Caricature Job!!! Valley Christian Arts and Crafts Fair, Dublin California

After months of study, much needed help, and investment, I set up my 40" LED TV on its custom fabricated stand, plugged in the cintiq screen tablet, opened Corel Painter, and got to work. As I finished these first test run sketches, I had them wirelessly sent to the printer and the kids waited for their faces to appear. The large screen and technology sent questions flying my way from tech savvy dads, and the kids swarmed around me to watch. The fair ended at 9pm, and a little after 10pm I finished the last few kids who had patiently waited in line.

I look forward to seeing where this new direction takes my event work in the years to come!

I must give special thanks here to Angie Jordan, for her book Byting into Live Digital Caricature, available here. My Setup is of the best available technology connected through means along the lines that Angie outlined in her book. In the book there are gems along the way that allowed me to get all the necessary equipment in advance, set up, and work my first job absolutely flawlessly. Thank you Angie Jordan!

Rhoda Draws also wrote a book, on Corel Painter 11, which was helpful.

Also, I must thank Doug Shannon, And Marion for great work in this medium as well as inspiration and helpful advice.

If you are interested in having live digital caricature artwork at your Trade show, party or event, contact me. Future jobs this Holiday Season include gallery 444 in San Francisco, the MOMA, as well as San Jose Museum of Art.

10-31-09 Patrick Chan's Party for his 1 yr old son hires Bay Area Caricature Artist Jon Casey

Patrick wrote me a great review on Yelp.com : Thanks Patrick!

I was planning for my son's 1st Birthday and was thinking how I would entertain all the kids at the party. Should I go with the typical Ballon artist or go for something different like a caricature artist. My wife and I are very pleased that we chose to go with Jon as our caricature artist. He was awesome and they last for a lifetime.

We hired Jon for 2 hrs and he was busy from beginning to end. We felt bad we had to limit it to kids' only as adults were so impressed they wanted them too. Money was well spent having Jon as our entertainment.

I have no problems recommending him to anyone looking for ways to entertain guest at their parties.

Thanks again Jon and I hope to use you again in the future!!

10-29-09 Bloomingdales Hires Bay Area Caricature Artist Jon Casey

These girls were on a study abroad trip in America, and SF was their favorite city they visited. I added a little GG Bridge to remind them, as this was their last day in America before returning to Berlin.

This is actually my friend's girlfriend, who happened to be at Bloomingdales this day. She has the coolest style and was a lot of fun to draw!

9-26-09 Part Two, Make a Wish Benefit for Philanthro Productions at Suede in San Francisco

I was contacted by Philanthro Productions for the Bay Area Chapter of the Make a Wish foundation to donate my services for a fundraiser party last Saturday. I am lucky that I love my job so much it never feels like work, and so I was happy to support such a great organization!

The paper was prepared with an egyptian theme, which was the destination wish they hoped to fulfill for one of the children that the night was supporting. I drew a lot of young professionals and had a great time. Gladys Dulay, the chief operating officer, wrote me this email the next day :

We were very please with all the caricatures that were drawn through out the night!  Also, thank you for working with us to create a custom paper design with logos, so that our patrons would remember that they contributed to a great cause.  We will most definitely contact you again for another Philanthro Productions charity event in the future!

9-21-09 Kristina Marie's Birthday at the Holiday Inn, San Francisco

Kristina Marie contacted me last minute for her Birthday party at the Hilton in San Francisco on the 21st. There was magic by Ryan Horsfall, and Mike Shumyater was there to photograph the fun. (MichaelShumyater@yahoo.com)

Being a caricature artist is not a way to get rich, but there are real rewards when you draw people and their faces light up. The caricatures were so popular that I ended up staying over time! I really enjoyed this event, and the next day I received a wonderful e-mail from Kristina Marie:

Well to be honest I am speech less- you were awesome!
you were right about people wanting you to stay pass the hour-
I had my sister in law nag, nag, nag, me to request if you can stay an extra 30 min-
Everyone here at the house is showing off their sketch especially me..
I LOVE IT! Even my friends from the Church are planning to hire you
for their annual charity event. Thank you so much for making my
Birthday Memorable!!!

Have a Blessed Day
-Kristina

Gamm-GO! 6-10-09

After the 5th graders, it was off to Hooters to draw for this local T-shirt plus design company. I slowed down a lot for these, and came out with some sketches that I really like. They are posting them up on their own website in the near future.
Oh yeah, thanks for the free shirt! They make cool stuff, check em out .

Birthday Party, San Bruno Park 5-2-09

This event was really wild, and a lot of fun. There must have been a few hundred people, and most were family. I had even drawn for some of them previously!
This kid was one of my favorite people to draw all year. I was pumping them out at about 2 minutes a face, but I could have spent all day caricaturing his great face.
